Enjoy the Silence

This past week, Chris and I took a much needed mini-getaway to what I will affectionately call THE ZION. We decided it was time for us to have a break from the littlest Wiricks...and vice versa!! So, we loaded up the Mini Cooper (seriously. loaded. to the top.) and hit the open road. By the way, if you are planning a road trip, a Mini Cooper may not be the best way to go. The convertible is a must, but you may want to look into something larger than a matchbox car...just sayin'.

Sore backs aside, we had a great time hiking, eating, SLEEPING IN and shopping (yes, I did manage to sweet talk my way into an evening in St. George with outlets, Five Guys Burgers and a little Robert Downey Jr. AKA The Iron Man).

We have decided that for sanity's sake, we will be making this a yearly tradition. Hopefully, our sitters will be on board... (hint hint, wink wink)...

Chris is not a fan of the camera unless he is behind it (...and apparently, I am a fan?) This is one of...oh...TWO photos of us together so everyone would believe he was actually present for "OUR" vacation. :)

This was our lunch buddy. Brave little sucker, he was...

Ian's 6!

HapPy HaPpy BiRthDaY to my first born son! It seems like just yesterday you were born, a solid 7 lbs. 4 oz. (with an AWESOME head of hair - the best of the family). You were such a beautiful baby, and I still remember my heartbreak when I had to leave the hospital without you. Luckily, it was just a little scare and we were only without you for a day, which was still FAR too long, by the way!

Now you are the big SIX and learning so much every day. You are so smart and inquisitive. You are learning to read and asking so many questions (too many some days...), but I'm so proud of your "need to know". Stick with it, it will take you far...

You still have the most awesome head of hair in the family! I think dad may be a tad jealous, but don't tell him I said that. You are extremely handsome, and I can imagine that before long, I will no longer be the most important woman in your life. The girls in your kindergarten class already fawn over you!!

I love you very much and can't wait to see what life has in store for you. Oh, the places you'll go!!

P.S. Where did you GET that hair?!? :)

Happy Birthday Ya-Ya!

Nine years ago, my first little miracle was sent to me. She was a tiny little thing with a FIERY temper...and hair to match. (Her eyebrows looked like someone had smeared Cheetos across her forehead). Fast forward to today; the hair is slightly fading and the temper is all but gone, and in it's place is the sweetest, most beautiful and caring little person that any mom could ever ask for. I'm honored to be your mom and OH SO proud to call you my daughter.

Happy 9th Ya-Ya - I love you!!!

My Baby is 3!!

HaPpy BiRthDay little man! You are one cool kid (and I'm pretty sure you know it...). But, aside from being cool, you are a great snuggler, you are HILARIOUS and you are just....plain....sweet! I'm blessed to have you in my life and proud to be your mom. I love you Connor Dane Orangutan!!

He's got the Big Boy Bed Blues

Connor got a new big-boy bed just after Christmas, and let's just say he has had a pretty rough go of it since then. He has some kind of aversion to the bed that I can't figure out. Maybe it's because I haven't bought him any real bedding yet, resulting in his bed looking like it's fit for a prison inmate.

He usually gets out of bed as soon as we leave the room. He will get his toys out, play for a while, and then fall asleep wherever he lands. As evidenced in the pics below, that can be in some pretty interesting places...or positions, rather. My personal favorite pic is this first one where he is wearing sunglasses...that's right, sunglasses! What can I say? The kid can't help but be cool, even when he's sleeping!!

If the potty training thing goes this smoothly, we are in big trouble!
